The Baltic Air Policing operation will handed over to French
On March 30 the hand-over ceremony of the NATO Operation Baltic Policing will be held in the Lithuanian Air Force Siauliai Aviation Base. Belgians currently deployed in Lithuania and on guard of the Baltic airspace will hand over the operation to the French Air Force soldiers.

imgThree-year Lithuania's NATO membership anniversary is on March 29. During the third year of membership Lithuania successfully continued integration into NATO military system, actively contributed to NATO military operations, fulfilled national security and collective defence commitments, developed capabilities necessary for the mentioned tasks. ”NATO membership is one of the key political achievements of Lithuania. The allies appreciate our contribution to building global security and stability. We are an integrate part of NATO and decisions of the Alliance are ours as well," National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas said.
New European Defence Agency electronic bulletin board introduced
Secretary of National Ministry of Defence Jurate Raguckiene will take part in the meeting of the EU National Armaments Directors in Belgium on March 29. The meeting will focus on the European procurement market and European defence equipment market issues. During the meeting the web interface for assisting small and medium enterprises in contesting for international defence equipment procurement will be launched. The interface is stage two of electronic bulletin board for publicising armaments procurement of the EU countries.
Lithuania compliments Swedish contribution to NATO operations
imgIn the meeting with Swedish Defence Minister Mikael Odenberg on March 27 Lithuanian Defence Minister J.Olekas emphasised contribution of Sweden as NATO partner country to operations of the Alliance. ”Sweden is one of the most active and appreciated partners that participates in key international operations lead by the Alliance", J.Olekas said.
A helping hand from Lithuanian and Afghan soldiers for snow avalanche victims in Morghabi valley
imgLast week troops of Lithuanian led Provincial Reconstruction Team for Ghowr joined their efforts with members of the Afghan National Army (ANA) to aid inhabitants of Morghabi valley in coping with ravage of snow avalanche. 13 people were killed, 13 injured, and 20 houses buried by a slump of snow.
Lithuanian Army Commander to visit troops deployed in Kosovo and Afghanistan
On March 23 Commander of Lithuanian Armed Forces General Major Valdas Tutkus left for Afghanistan and Kosovo by the new aircraft of the Air Force Spartan C-27J ”Gediminas" to visit Lithuanian soldiers on international missions. He is to meet with the Commander of NATO International Security Assistance Force, General Dan K. MacNeill, in the capital of Afghanistan Kabul.
KFOR-16 Platoon deployed to mission in Kosovo
Troops of National Defence Volunteer Force (NDVF) KFOR-16 Platoon will be deployed to peace-support mission in the province of Serbia Kosovo from the Grand Duke of Lithuania Butigeidis Dragoon Training Battalion in Klaipeda on March 23.
Moments of military cooperation of the Baltic States
Photo exhibition will be opened on March 22 in Riga ”Military cooperation of the Baltic States". The event will presumably be attended by the Lithuanian Defence Minister Juozas Olekas, Army Commander Major General Valdas Tutkus, authorities of Latvian Defence Ministry and Latvian Armed Forces, and representatives of Estonian Defence Ministry.
National Defence Minister J.Olekas visited Lithuanian troops in Iraq
On March 18-19 National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas went to visit Lithuanian soldiers on service in the Basra province of Iraq. He surveyed the living and service conditions of the LITCON-9 troops. The 50-troop platoon is formed on the basis of Headquarters Surveillance Company of the Motorised Infantry Brigade ”Iron Wolf" and was deployed in Iraq in February.
Lithuanian soldiers arranged special courses for Afghan National Police
imgLast week soldiers of the Lithuanian led Ghowr PRT held special courses for members of Afghanistan National Police (ANP). 51 policemen attended the courses. They drilled their old and learnt new skills that would be necessary this week when they will be redeployed to Pasaband, southern region of Ghowr. The region is one of the most dangerous in the Ghowr province.
