Baltic States reached the final phase of preparation for duty in NRF 2009.05.28
![]() Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will begin the final phase of preparation for the standby in the NATO Response Force (NRF-14) as the "Baltic Eagle 2009" international exercise of the joint Baltic Battalion will be conducted in Adaži Military Area, Latvia, on 2 -17 June 2009. Around 1100 soldiers are going to take part in the exercise arranged to test combat readiness level of the unit. Planning and conduct of the exercise is completed by the Lithuanian Land Force Motorised Infantry Brigade „Iron Wolf" and corresponding brigades of Latvian and Estonian Land Forces. The exercise is scheduled by Land Force Commanders of the Baltic States. |

![]() The training will be attended by six ships sailing under the BALTRON (Baltic Squadron) flag or assigned to the training additionally. Three LNF ships will represent Lithuania in the training: patrol boats „Žemaitis" (P11) and „Skalvis" (P33), and minehunter and sweeper „Sūduvis" (M52). |

![]() Delegation led by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Defence of Sweden Håkan Jevrell was visiting Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence on May 27-28. During the visit the guest met with the Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas, and delegation of MoND and the Armed Forces. Some of the meetings were also attended by the delegation of the Lithuanian Ministry of Internal Affairs and subordinate institutions led by the Vice Minister of Internal Affairs Stanislovas Liutkevičius. |

Diplomat of Japan joined Lithuanian-led Chaghcharan Provincial Reconstruction Team 2009.05.25
![]() May 23, national flag of Japan was hoisted in the compound of Chaghcharan PRT-9. The first diplomat of Japan Jiro Kanzawa started his work in the Lithuanian-led PRT, he will be responsible for implementation and supervision of projects financed by Japan's Government. Japan plans to dispatch four experts of development cooperation to Chaghcharan PRT. |

President of the Republic of Lithuania and Minister of National Defence discussed the procedure of appointing new Chief of Defence of Lithuania 2009.05.25
![]() May 25, Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė was received by the President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus. Spokesperson for the President of Lithuania Rita Grumadaitė said that the issue of replacing Chief of Defence of Lithuania were discussed in the meeting. „Five-year tenure of the present Lithuanian Chief of Defence Lt. Gen. Valdas Tutkus will end on June 30, R.Grumadaitė said. The President and the Minister addressed the procedures of dismissing the former and appointing a new Chief of Defence of Lithuania." President's Spokesperson R.Grumadaitė emphasized that V.Adamkus is resolute to regard the opinion of the President-elect Dalia Grybauskaitė when considering candidacies and appointment of the new Chief of Defence. |
