NATO representatives in Lithuania familiarised with the venue and infrastructure of the Steadfast Juncture-11 exercise 2011.03.23
![]() March 22–23, representatives of the Headquarters Allied Force Command Heidelberg (HQ FC Heidelberg) Forward Support Element, Ist and IInd NATO Signal Battalions, and the NATO Maintenance and Supply Organisation (NAMSO) visited Lithuanian Gen Adolfas Ramanauskas Warfare Training Centre (Nemenčinė) and Pabradė Training Area. The guests arrived to familiarise with the venue and infrastructure of the Steadfast Juncture 2011 exercise where the guest forces, exercise command and evaluating team will be stationed this autumn. |

Baltic States will host training event of NATO and Swedish air assets 2011.03.22
![]() March 22-23, Headquarters Allied Air Command Ramstein (HQ AC Ramstein) organises the eighth Baltic Region Training Event (BRTE VIII). For the first time in the history of the event (since 2008) the Swedish Air Force will take part in the BRTE VIII.
Scenario of the training event will challenge NATO and Sweden’s airspace control services to assist by coordinated actions non-identified or aircrafts suffering communications problems. |

The second mine hunter and sweeper purchased from the United Kingdom moored in Klaipėda 2011.03.21
![]() March 20, the second „Hunt“ class mine hunter and sweeper M54 purchased form the United Kingdom moored in the Lithuanian Naval Fleet in Klaipėda.
Crew of M54 under the lead of Lt Cdr Tadas Jablonskis have been supervising refurbishment and modernization works under an intense transfer of ship schedule at the UK Seaport Falmouth since August 2010.
Training of the crew and transfer of the ship followed an elaborate programme to teach members of the crew to run the ship in line with security requirements, handle and upkeep weaponry and other equipment. Once the training was done new installations of the ship underwent sea test while the crew drilled skills of handling the cutting-edge equipment. |

At the IV Forum on Euroatlantic Security Minister of National Defence R. Juknevičienė raised energy security questions 2011.03.17
![]() March 17, Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė took part in the IV Forum on Euroatlantic Security held by the Foundation Institute for Strategic Studies in Krakow in Warsaw (Poland) together with Defence Ministers of Latvia, Estonia, the Visegrad Group (Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary), Albania, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Romania. The event focused on the effects the new NATO Strategic Concept approved at the Lisbon Summit in November 2010 on NATO’s future. |

General Wolf Langheld’s first time visit Lithuania 2011.03.15
![]() 15 March, General Wolf Langheld, Commander NATO Allied Joint Force Command (JFC) Brunssum, arrived in Lithuania to meet with Minister of National Defense of the Republic of Lithuania, Mrs. Rasa Juknevičienė and Chief of Defense of the Republic of Lithuania Major General Arvydas Pocius. General Langheld also visited the NATO Air Policing Detachment at the Lithuanian Air Force Air Base in Šiauliai.
The aim of the visit was to discuss and exchange information about International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) operations in Afghanistan, Baltic Air Policing, Military Cooperation and the upcoming NATO military exercise being held in Lithuania in November 2011. |

Head of the EU Delegation to Afghanistan Vygaudas Ušackas paid a visit to Ghor province 2011.03.11
![]() On March 10 EU Special Representative and Head of the Delegation of the European Union in Afghanistan Vygaudas Ušackas and a delegation paid a visit to the base of the Lithuanian-led Chaghcharan Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) in Ghor province. Among other delegates V. Ušackas was accompanied by Ambassador of Poland Maciej Lang and Head of the Lithuanian Special Mission in Afghanistan during his visit in Ghor. The visit was conducted to have a closer look at the activities undertaken by the Lithuanian-led PRT and its partners as well as at the present-day security situation in the region, to meet with the new Governor of Ghor, and to deliver congratulations to Lithuanian military on the Independence Day of Lithuania. |

Special Operations Forces servicemembers continue mission in South Afghanistan, ISAF Commander extends appreciation 2011.03.04
![]() March 4, after a break in winter season personnel of the Lithuanian Special Operations Forces (SOF) Squadron „Aitvaras“ rejoined the International Security Assistance Force’s (ISAF) mission in southern Afghanistan at full capacity.
Through participation in the Afghanistan mission Lithuanian SOF personnel gain experience and expand the capacity of SOF which is evaluated positively by the ISAF Commander in Afghanistan Gen David H. Petraeus. In the letter sent to the Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj Gen Arvydas Pocius Gen D. Petraeus repeatedly thanked for „the outstanding performance of the Special Operations Task Force and its significant contributions to the Afghanistan campaign". |

Chief of Defence of Finland met with the leading authorities of the Ministry of National Defence and the Lithuanian Armed Forces 2011.03.01
![]() March 1, Chief of Defence of Gen Finland Ari Tapani Puheloinen conducting an official visit in Lithuania met with the Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė and the Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj Gen Arvydas Pocius.
At the meeting with the highest military authority of Finland Minister Rasa Juknevičienė stressed the growing importance of regional Nordic-Baltic cooperation. According to R. Juknevičienė, the increasing strategic weight of the Nordic regions is well illustrated by the political will of the United Kingdom to get involved in the region. Last November Defence Minister of the United Kingdom participated in the Nordic-Baltic Defence Ministers’ meeting in Oslo. |
