Commanding General of United States Army in Europe paid a work visit to Rukla, met with U.S. troops recently deployed in Lithuania 2014.04.30
![]() On April 29 Lieutenant General Donald M. Campbell Jr., the Commanding General of the United States Army in Europe (USAREUR), conducted a work visit at the Mechanised Infantry Brigade (MIB) Iron Wolf of the Lithuanian Armed Forces in Rukla.
The high-ranking officer arrived to discuss readiness of the U.S. Army’s 173rd Airborne Brigade which has deployed a team in Lithuania recently to complete joint tasks with units of the Lithuanian Land Force, and perspectives of further cooperation with the Lithuanian Armed Forces in the area of combat training. |

![]() “We have been privileged to hold rotation ceremonies for NATO’s Baltic air policing contingents for a decade. However, today we have a ceremony we never had before. As the security situation has changed and NATO has made a corresponding decision, today we are hosting more allied forces in the Baltic Region, more allied fighter aircraft, more NATO member states represented at the Šiauliai Air Base and the Baltic Region,” Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas said at the formal changeover ceremony for NATO’s Baltic air policing contingents on April 30 at the Lithuanian Air Force Base in Šiauliai. |

![]() On May 2 Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas and Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom Phillip Hammond will meet at the Šiauliai Air Base of the Lithuanian Air Force.
The top-ranking defence officials are expected to address regional security, NATO’s Baltic Air Policing Mission and others relevant issues of bilateral military cooperation. |

Formal rotation ceremony for contingents conducting NATO’s Baltic Air Policing Mission in Šiauliai 2014.04.29
![]() On April 30 a formal rotation ceremony of air contingents deployed on the NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission will take place at the Lithuanian Air Force Base in Šiauliai. Following a four-month rotation and an augmentation the United States’ Air Contingent will be replaced by Polish military with four Mig-29 fighter jets. Their mission, too, will be strengthened by 4 Eurofighter Typhoon fighter jets contributed by the United Kingdom. |

The new Belgium’s Defence Attaché was congratulated by Vice Minister of National Defence Antanas Valys, Ambassador of Belgium to Lithuania Peter Gaston Marcella Lescouhier, representatives of the Ministry of National Defence and the Lithuanian Armed Forces. |

NATO’s Baltic Air Policing Mission will pass from U.S. troops to Polish and British air capabilities 2014.04.27
![]() On April 28 four Eurofighter Typhoons of the British Royal Air Force will land at the Lithuanian Air Force Base in Šiauliai. The aircraft will strengthen the Polish Air Contingent which will take over the NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission from the United States. British personnel, equipment and materiel for mission purposes will arrive in Šiauliai by a C-17 transport aircraft. |

![]() On April 26 a company-sized element of the U.S. 173rd Airborne Brigade was deployed to Lithuania to carry out bilateral exercises based on collective defence tasks with Lithuanian military. The U.S. paratroopers arrived in the Lithuanian Air Force Base in Šiauliai in two U.S. C-130s.
The U.S. military were welcomed in Lithuania by President Dalia Grybauskaitė, Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas, U.S. Ambassador in Lithuania Deborah A. McCarthy, Chief of Defence Lieutenant General Arvydas Pocius, Deputy Commanding General of U.S. Army in Europe Major General Richard C. Longo, and personnel of the Lithuanian Land Force. |

Lithuanian troops will leave for NATO missile defence mission in Turkey 2014.04.25
![]() On April 25 Lithuanian troops were formally deployed to NATO’s missile defence operation unofficially called Active Fence, in Turkey at a ceremony at the Lithuanian Grand Duke Gediminas Headquarters Battalion. Five members of the Deployable Communications and Information System Module (DCISM) of the Lithuanian Armed Forces assigned to the 3rd NATO Signal Battalion will leave for Turkey on April 26. |
