14 Lithuanian servicemembers deploying to the EU Operation ATALANTA off the Somali coast 2017.11.29
![]() On November 29 the fourth Autonomous Vessel Protection Detachment (AVPD-4) comprised of 14 Lithuanian soldiers is deployed to the European Union multinational Operation ATALANTA. The Lithuanian rotation will serve in the operation off the Somali coast countering piracy and armed robbery in the Indian Ocean efforts until early March of 2018. |

Lithuania hands over military assistance to Ukraine 2017.11.29
![]() On November 29 the Government of the Republic of Lithuania adopted a resolution to hand over to the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine on a nonreimbursable basis its assets by proprietary rights used by the Lithuanian Armed Forces by entrustment rights. On the basis of the resolution, Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence will be given weapons and ammunition that the Lithuanian Armed Forces used before becoming a member of NATO and do not coincide with the calibres used in NATO. |

![]() On November 30 Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis is departing for the United States of America to attend the Reagan National Defense Forum (RNDF). The Minister and U.S. security and defence officials will discuss the most significant challenges of the present day of the global security and U.S. national security agenda. The Forum is planned to cover the topics of the U.S. defence priorities, the most important challenges to the U.S. security agenda, development of the U.S. defence industry, and plans of the present administration to strengthen the U.S. Armed Forces, and other issues. |

International assistance to Ukraine's defence reform discussed in Kyiv 2017.11.27
![]() On November 27-28 Chief of the Joint Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Major General Vitalijus Vaikšnoras is conducting a visit in Ukraine to attend meetings of the Multinational Joint Commission on Defense Reform and Security Cooperation with Ukraine (MJC), a body responsible for coordination of international support to Ukraine’s military reform. The Multinational Joint Commission comprises representatives of Ukraine, U.S., UK, Canada, Poland, and Lithuania, and 13 subcommittees. Lithuania takes part in the work of the Subcommittees on the Land Force, Special Operations Forces, and Military Police, and head the Subcommittee on the NCO Reform. |
