![]() On February 19-27 Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas attended 2018 Global SOF Symposium – US in Florida, United States, and met with the U.S. Special Operations Forces leadership. Vice Minister V. Umbrasas took part in the panel on “Modern Warfare” in the annual international event held in the United States that was attended by roughly 500 high-ranking ministerial, military, governmental, and academic representatives of 25 states this year. Vice Minister offered perspective of the Baltic region, took part in a discussion on the different views on the changing situation on the battlefield, addressed points of cooperation and touch of different countries’ SOFs. |

Troops of Denmark, Lithuania, and other NATO allies took part in 25 km DANCON march 2018.02.26
![]() Video report (by OR-6 Lukas Kalvaitis) Soldiers of the Royal Danish Air Force currently conducting the NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states arranged the second DANCON (Danish Contingent) march on February 25. The length of 25 km of the march was chosen to begin at the Air Defence Battalion in Radviliškis to the Air Base in Šiauliai. DANCON marches are organised in the countries Denmark’s soldiers are deployed to, it is one of the oldest NATO’s military marches first organised 46 years ago. |

Lithuania increases military contribution in Afghanistan 2018.02.22
![]() The Ministry of National Defence made a decision to step up the military contribution to the NATO-led Operation Resolute Support in Afghanistan on the basis of requests from NATO and allies.
Soldiers of the Lithuanian Special Operations Forces are planned to leave for Kandahar, their deployment destination, in April. Alongside soldiers of the United States of America they will be carrying out tasks of training and assisting local security forces. The overall number of Lithuanian soldiers deployed to Afghanistan will not exceed the limit set by the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, i.e. 50 troops. |
