Military intelligence of Lithuania celebrates 30th anniversary

Military intelligence of Lithuania has been the most effective guarantee of national defence since the restoration of independence. On June 1 it celebrates the 30th anniversary since its re-establishment. Intelligence services ensure that political and military leadership of the country gets the most essential information for forming national security and defence policy, and the country’s armed forces – for getting ready to eliminate military threats facing the country. Today, the activities carried out by the Second Investigation Department under the Ministry of National Defence are essential for operation of the National Defence System.

A new railhead of Pabradė-Pažeimenė railway line of national importance has been completed in May, it will improve conditions for deploying military vehicles and equipment of NATO allies to the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area near Pabradė (Švenčionys region). On May 29 the newly opened transportation capability was tested out by the outgoing U.S. rotation deploying home from Lithuania.

Assessment of the video surveillance cameras

 

Following a thorough cybersecurity assessment of Hikvision and Dahua Chinese manufactured video surveillance cameras used in Lithuania, the National Cyber Security Centre under the Ministry of National Defence (NCSC), concluded that remote control of the cameras could be achieved through cyber-attacks due to a number of risks, examples of which were poor password safety solutions and software vulnerabilities.

Joint Statement by the Ministers

“Armed Forces and society unity day that has been celebrated since the interwar period and also honours the heroic deeds of the “war after war” partisans has more importance today than ever before. Immortalisation of the heroic sacrifice of partisans for a free Lithuania is one of the pillars of civil awareness and patriotism in the times of information warfare,” Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis says. Minister and Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lt Gen Valdemaras Rupšys honoured Lithuanian partisans and partisan commanders today, May 15, thus starting the traditional commemoration of Partisan Honouring, Public and Military Unity Day.
