NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group change of command ceremony to take place in Rukla

On February 6 rotation and leadership of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group (eFP BG) will change over at the Lithuanian Great Hetman Jonušas Radvila Training Regiment in Rukla (Jonava region).

The ceremony is planned to be attended by Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Valdemaras Rupšys, Vice Chief of Defence of Germany Vice Admiral Joachim Rühle, commanders of units of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, representatives of countries forming the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group, and other guests.

“We are entering a new stage of cooperation with our strategic ally in defence, Poland. We have held for the first time a bilateral Defence Ministers Council, this format will enable us to cooperate in defence area even more systemically and closely. The Council will meet on a regular basis in the future,” Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis said after the first Lithuanian-Polish Defence Council in Vilnius with Minister of National Defence of Poland Mariusz Błaszczak on January 29.

On January 22 Director General of the Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and National Armament Director of the Kingdom of Sweden Göran Mårtensson paid a visit to Lithuania at the invitation of Director of the Defence Materiel Agency under the Minsitry of National Defence Sigitas Dzekunskas. The meeting was also attended by Defence Attaché of Sweden to Lithuania Lt Col Lars Eklind who assumed the duties in spring 2019.

On January 29 Minister of National Defence of Lithuania Raimundas Karoblis and Minister of National Defence of Poland Mariusz Błaszczak will discuss concrete steps to strengthen regional – security cooperation of the respective armed forces on ensuring defendability of the Suwalki Gap, possibilities to integrate national airspace and defence systems, and the need to retain a continuous U.S. presence in the region -  at the first meeting as the Lithuanian-Polish Defence Council in Vilnius.

NATO allies to hold a community event in Šakiai

On January 23 soldiers of the NATO allies deployed in Lithuania continue will hold a community engagement event in Šakiai. It will be one of the cycle of events, held to familiarize the community of Lithuania in local municipalities with the NATO contribution to regional security. NATO troops will meet with representative of municipal administration, visit a high school, industrial objects, show their equipment. The visit will be conducted by members of the NATO Force Integration Unit, NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group, U.S. Battalion in Lithuania, 2nd Territorial Unit of Darius and Girėnas Military District of the National Defence Volunteer Force, representatives of the Lithuanian Riflemen’s Union.

First multinational Lithuanian-led cyber rapid response team entered standby

First multinational rotation of the cyber rapid response teams developed by Lithuania began as of early 2020. It is the first standby to be carried out by a CRRT under Lithuania’s lead. Last year a Dutch-led CRRT was on standby.

New AROCS trucks bought for the Lithuanian Armed Forces

As upgrading of Lithuanian Armed Forces capabilities continues, the Defence Materiel Agency under the Ministry of National Defence signed a contract on January 20 with Silberauto UAB, authorised representative of Daimler AG German manufacturer in Lithuania, on procurement of AROCS customised platform vehicles and container trucks. Four automobile manufacturers had made bids in an open tender procedure25 trucks will be bought over four years. The value of the contract is approximately EUR 10 million including VAT. The sum covers not only trucks customised to military use, with hydraulic loading system, cargo transportation platform, and container loading system, but also the logistic package – special tool and computer diagnostic software kits, etc.

On January 16 Minister of National Defence of Lithuania Raimundas Karoblis and Minister of Defence and Deputy Prime Minister of Latvia Artis Pabriks discussed over a working lunch topical aspects of security from bilateral and regional point of view, and their countries’ objective to ensure constant exchange of information concerning changes in the security situation.
