Demand for remote communication has grown significantly as the majority of business, education and other institutions has moved part of their activities to virtual communication amid the continuing COVID-19 emergency situation in Lithuania. The National Cyber Security Centre under the Ministry of National Defence warns about vulnerabilities of Zoom: the platform should not be used for sensitive information exchange. Experts also advise against using it in critical information infrastructure and public sector systems for inside service information exchange.

In the late afternoon on Tuesday a falsification of e-mail letter from NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg was delivered to Minister of National Defence of Lithuania falsely informing of a decision to withdraw NATO forces from Lithuania. According to the primary investigation, analogous messages were sent to the Lithuanian media and addresses at the main NATO headquarters in Brussels.

Around noon on April 17 a military aircraft requested by the Ministry of National Defence and the Lithuanian Armed Forces landed at Vilnius International Airport with medical protective supplies from China aboard. This is the second time this week the Ministry of National Defence and the Lithuanian Armed Forces used a Boeing 747F aircraft as part of the military lift cooperation platform to bring medical protective supplies. The aircraft was booked through the Movement Coordination Centre Europe (MCCE) on the basis of a request from the Ministry of Health.

On April 16 the annual National Cybersecurity Assessment was presented via teleconference with attendance of Minister of National Defence Raimundas Karoblis, Vice Minister of National Defence Edvinas Kerza and Director of the National Cyber Security Centre under the MoD Dr. Rytis Rainys.
