Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas and Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Lithuania HE Volodymyr Yatsenkivskyi discussed bilateral defence cooperation of the two countries, participation of Ukraine in multilateral cybersecurity projects, as well as other initiatives, and exchanged views on the security situation in the region, at a meeting today, January 28.

On January 27 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas met with Ambassador of Italy to Lithuania HE Diego Ungaro and thanked for his country’s contribution to the security in the Baltic region, welcomed a terrific bilateral cooperation, and expressed a hope that the cooperation would be developed in same successful fashion in the future.

Lithuanian soldiers continue contributing to the training the Armed Forces of Ukraine as the National Military Training Operation in Ukraine. The fifth group of instructors formed by the National Defence Volunteer Force, Training and Doctrine Command staff, Lithuanian Air Force Base, and Juozas Vitkus Engineer Battalion, and in the command of National Defence Volunteer Force staff officer Major Rytis Raudonis, deployed to Ukraine.

On January 18 Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas paid a visit to the Lithuanian Air Force Base in Šiauliai to meet with the Italian Air Force Detachment deployed there for NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states.

“The NATO Air Policing Mission in the Baltic states is a peacetime mission. It is an obvious sign of NATO readiness to defend this area of the Alliance. Your presence in the broader sense is also a signal of Alliance-wide unity, stability, defence and deterrence,” Minister said to Italian troops.

Lithuanian Navy officer Commander Audrius Venckūnas handed over the command of Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group One (SNMCMG1) to officer of the Royal Netherlands Navy Commander Dr. Jan Wijchers. The Lithuanian Navy was in command of SNMCMG1 from summer 2020.
