New U.S. rotation settled in at Pabradė in the brand new Camp Herkus

On August 30 Camp Herkus was inaugurated, based at the General Silvestras Žukauskas Training Area at Pabradė, it already accommodates the United States rotational troops deployed to Lithuania. The new infrastructure is tailored to ensure proper training and living conditions and expand the capacity to rotate more U.S. military personnel through the country.

On August 17 the first Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) procured by the Lithuanian Armed Forces from the United States of America were unveiled publicly in Rukla. At the ceremony held at the Mechanized Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf Vice Minster of National Defence Margiris Abukevičius said that the acquisition was a particularly important step in the modernization of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas met with U.S. Congressmen Adam Smith, Rick Larsen and Steven Palazzo on a visit on Lithuania Thursday: they discussed the U.S. assistance rendered to Lithuania and the positive effect it had on developing Lithuanian capabilities.

On August 10 Commander of the Mechanized Infantry Brigade Iron Wolff transferred the command of the NATO enhanced Forward Presence Battalion Battle Group Lithuania from outgoing Commander Lt Col Sebastian Hebisch to his successor Lt Col Hagen Ruppelt at a ceremony in Rukla. Vice Minister of National Defence Vilius Semeška thanked the outgoing leader and wished luck in the service to the incoming one.

On August 10 the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania approved the proposed amendments to the Law on the Organization of National Defence and Military Service and to the Statute on the Use of Military Force. Specific rights and additional authority have been bestowed on Lithuanian Armed Forces personnel for the events of emergency with rapidly increasing scope of the event and the need to assist the police, State Border Guard Service or the Public Security Service under the Ministry of the Interior in their functions to prevent threats to public peace.
