The Polish Air Force will be patrolling the Baltic skies for four next months as off November 30. Poland has taken over the NATO Air Policing Mission command as it has rotated in instead of the previous Danish and Portuguese air detachments.

“Elimination of unreliable technology from critical infrastructure and public institutions is a matter of national defence. We have made a firm decision in Lithuania that we will only cooperate with the companies from countries that meet the Euro-Atlantic standard. We are glad to see that the security of technology supply chains is discussed at European, transatlantic levels,” stressed Vice Minister of National Defence Margiris Abukevičius at the Prague 5G Security Conference earlier today.

On November 30 air force detachments implementing NATO Baltic Air Policing Mission tasks from Šiauliai will rotate at a hand over-take over of mission ceremony at the Lithuanian Air Force Base. After three month on duty, the Danish Air Force Detachment and the augmentation unit from Portugal will be replaced by the Polish Air Force Detachment which will patrol the Baltic airspace with four F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft.

November 23, Lithuanian Armed Forces Day, was marked with a festive line-up of the Lithuanian Armed Forces personnel on the Cathedral Square in Vilnius. Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas gave a congratulatory address to the troops thanking them for the support in the efforts to manage the COVID-19 and the irregular migration crises.

Tuesday Minister of National Defence Arvydas Anušauskas met with Minister of National Defence of Portugal Joao Gomes Cravinho on a visit in Lithuania to discuss the recently particularly intense security and defence cooperation between the countries. According A. Anušauskas, Lithuania and Portugal had a number of shared and important subjects that needed debate and solutions.

New infrastructure for Lithuanian and allied troops to be built in Rukla

At a meeting in late October, Germany and Lithuania agreed on a joint project: new infrastructure in Rukla, barracks, roads, etc. The extensions will serve for the purposes of the Artillery and the Logistical Battalions of the Iron Wolf Brigade and the NATO enhanced Forward Presence (eFP) Battalion Battle Group.
